County golf tournament on tee

Over 100 golfers from the immediate area are vying for titles this weekend in the 44th annual Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota Webster County golf tournaments.

A number of new options will greet the field of participants for the Saturday and Sunday competition. For the first time, a “Legends” Division is being offered on both the men’s and women’s side for players age 70 and older. This will flank the traditional open, senior (age 50-59) and super senior (age 60-69) championship brackets for individual 36-hole stroke play at the Fort Dodge Country Club and Lakeside Golf Courses.

The women’s competition will also feature a new two-person best shot on Saturday at Lakeside. This is an alternative to the individual bracket, which is still being offered.

The men’s field begins at the FDCC on Saturday and concludes at Lakeside on Sunday, with the women following the opposite pattern.

Defending men’s champion Randy Stults (senior) is on the tee sheet, but Cole Jaeschke (open) is not. Jaeschke has a previous commitment and is unable to play.

Greg Sampson (super senior) is also not signed up as of Friday.

Previous men’s open division winners Lucas Peed, Eddy Doyle, Austin Morrow and Ryan Reeder – who followed Jaeschke in the Top-5 a year ago – are all registered.

A pair of 2023 runner-ups, Kevin Conrad (senior) and Jim Dalton (super senior), will be in action.

On the women’s side, Morgan (Byson) Hanson, who set a new overall county open division scoring record last year, is registered. Sam Kuhn, the 2023 silver medalist, is in as well.

Full Swing Financial Planning of Fort Dodge is sponsoring this year’s closest to the pin contest, which takes place on Saturday. There will be $100 winners at each of the par-3s at the respective courses.

Tee times are in nine-minute increments on the men’s side, beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday at the FDCC. The women start at 8 a.m. at Lakeside on Saturday.

The championship nine for both the men’s open and senior divisions will be at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Sunday at Lakeside.

Temperatures are expected to soar into the 90s both days, with the heat index hovering around 100. Wind and rain are not expected to play a factor.

Lakeside is a par 36-36-72 layout. The FDCC is a 35-36-71.
