Moffitt, Sarbo earn honors
Iowa Central’s Luke Moffitt and Matt Sarbo were recognized by the ICCAC recently.
Moffitt was named the conference coach of the year while Sarbo picked up wrestler of the year honors.
The Tritons claimed the regular season dual title under Moffitt, who has twice before been named the top coach. The 20-year veteran proceeded to lead Iowa Central to the North Central District championship, its first sicne 2019 earlier this month.
Iowa Central, ranked sixth in the country, qualified all 10 wrestlers for the upcoming NJCAA Championships, which take place March 1-2 in Council Bluffs.
“I am very honored to receive this award but it is a collective effort of the coaching staff, wrestlers and support staff,” Moffitt said. “Without them, none of this would be possible.
“I am very excited for Matt. He joins some elite company with this award and he has a very bright future.”
Sarbo, a reigning national champion, went 12-0 against NJCAA opponents this past year and 24-2 overall. Both of his losses came to NCAA Div. I wrestlers in Iowa State’s Casey Swiderski and South Dakota State’s Colin Dupill.
The 149-pounder has been ranked No. 1 all season and will carry that billing as he hopes for a repeat.
Sarbo is the third Triton wrestler since 2017-18 to be honored, joining Ethan Karsten and Todd Small.
