Michaela Leiting has remained as active as possible since entering the halls of St. Edmond.

The senior has received numerous honors and accolades along the way, but it is something else that she will always treasure from her time as a Gael.

“The main thing that I will miss most about being a Gael is definitely the community,” Leiting said. “The relationships I have with teachers, coaches and peers are hard to find and is one aspect of this school that I am so grateful for.

“St. Edmond may not be a very big school or have many students, but it sure has a lot of love to go around. Being able to practice and grow in my faith each day has been a blessing and is something I’m very thankful for.”

Along with being a multi-time state cross country qualifier, Leiting has also received all-state status for cheer, helped the Gael softball team reach the state tournament, ran at state track and played basketball over the past four years.

“Our state softball appearance really set the tone for the coming cross country season and following senior seasons,” Leiting said. “Success breeds success, and our rewarding softball season was the perfect way to being senior year.

“Once you go to state, you do everything you can to go back. That mindset has been and will continue to be the focus for the remaining track and softball seasons.”

Outside of athletics, she is student body president along with being a member of student ambassador, honor society and Play Like a Champion.

“Being a Gael over the years has meant so much to me and has become a huge part of my identity,” Leiting said. “I have loved being on multiple Gael teams surrounded by my closest friends and coaches who actively encourage the best from one another.

“I wouldn’t trade my years in a Gael jersey for the world and it will definitely be something that I will miss.”

Leiting is undecided on her college future but plans to attend a four-year school while pursuing a degree in business and health sciences with a focus on nutrition.
