The win streak for the Iowa Central baseball team reached 15 here Tuesday at Rogers Park with a sweep of Century College.

Scores were 2-0 and 8-7.

The eighth-ranked Tritons (19-1 overall) have not lost since a 2-0 setback on Feb. 18 to Northeast Mississippi in Tennessee. They are also 4-0 in one-run games this season.

Nile Foss tossed a one-hitter in the opener, striking out five with just one walk issued to earn the win. He got support from the Iowa Central offense with a run in the first and one more in the third.

Colten Becker and Caleb Corbin each had an RBI, with Quade Peters and Michael Siemer scoring runs. Peters, Siemer, Corbin, Joshua Blount and Josh Hatano recorded a hit.

“That was the first collegiate start for Nile and he did great,” ICCC head coach Eric Stein said. “We needed it out of him both in terms of giving us innings and because we didn’t have our ‘A’ game at the plate.”

After allowing Century to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap, the Tritons plated five in the third. Century cut the lead to 5-3 before Iowa Central plated a run in the fourth and two more in the sixth.

In the ninth, Century closed to 8-7, but the Tritons got out of it with the tying run on base after four had scored.

Siemer collected three hits with an RBI and a run scored, Becker drove in three and Jackson Tessman, Zakary Goodwin and Josh Hatano each had an RBI. Hatano also had three hits and Evan Borst scored twice.

“We were able to do a lot of small-ball stuff, which is important because it shows us we can win in other ways,” Stein said. “We scratched some runs across, got great efforts on the mound and got the win.

“When you are in a run like we are, keeping that momentum going is important, and can really lead into winning games when you aren’t playing at your best.”

Hunter Frost struck out four in three-plus innings of work with Austin Bergum recording three strikeouts in his time on the mound.

Iowa Central is set to host Southwestern in its ICCAC opener on Wednesday. First-pitch is set for 1 p.m.
