Gaels, Cowboys to meet on the mat

CLARION — The St. Edmond wrestling team hits the mats here Thursday night for a North Central Conference triangular with Clarion-Goldfield/Dows and Humboldt.

Action begins at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, the Gaels will head to Emmetsburg for the E-Hawk Invitational. Wrestling starts at 10:30 a.m. for that event.

The Gaels (0-2 overall, 0-2 in NCC) were in action at the Doug Wood Invitational in Manson, finishing seventh overall.

Sam Myer earned a runner-up finish at 138 points, as did Nano Guillen at 160.

Thomas Knobbe, Ronnie Orres and Adam Walker were third, Zach Rossmanith was fifth and Carter Rial sixth. Quintin Jaeschke was also in action for St. Edmond.

Humboldt (1-0, 0-0) picked up the team title at its Joe Fitch Invitational, topping a field that included Atlantic and Emmetsburg.

Tyce Clarken, Owen Mayall, Jayden Gargano, Dusty Pate, Jase Goodell were champions, Cyler Cirks and Christian Lee placed second and both Brady Beers and Ty Gargano were third.

Clarion-Goldfield/Dows (2-0, 2-0) opened the dual season with wins over Iowa Falls-Alden (75-10) and Hampton-Dumont/CAL (47-40). They also competed at the Cliff Keen Invitational over the weekend.

Mack Seaba and Ashtin Willms placed sixth, Nash Lienemann was seventh, Reid Huntley was eighth, Cale Kirstein finished ninth and both Brandon Stein and Mason Allen were 10th.
