Madden places 28th for Fort Dodge

INDIANOLA — The Fort Dodge cross country team completed their season here Wednesday at a Class 4A state-qualifying meet.

The Dodger boys placed sixth overall led by Ryan Madden, while the FDSH girls were seventh.

Madden, a senior, was 28th in a time of 17:24.67.

Johnston was crowned team champions on the boys side over Norwalk by two points, as Jaxson Plumb won the individual race in 15:38.98. The Dragons were also the top team for girls, placing four in the Top-7 behind winner Olivia Verde, who went 18:14.83.

After Johnston and Norwalk came Southeast Polk, Ames, Indianola, the Dodgers, Des Moines East, Ottumwa and Des Moines North. The Rams will join Johnston and Norwalk at the state meet in Fort Dodge next Saturday as qualifiers.

For the girls, Southeast Polk was third to grab the final team spot with Indianola, Norwalk, Ottumwa and Fort Dodge rounding out the field. The Top-15 individual finishers also qualify for state.

“The kids ran a great course,” FDSH head coach Joe Jackson said. “It’s a course we knew coming and they really ran hard and competed.

“We had a lot of PRs left and right to end the season.”

Madden was less than a minute out of claiming one of those spots to get the chance and run at home again this year. Michael Wagner was the next Dodger, as he placed 35th in a time of 18:18.28, with Micah Flaherty 38th in 18:37.99.

“Ryan was pushing for one of those Top-15 spots and went out with those top kids,” Jackson said. “He ran a good race.

“We wish St. Edmond the best of luck as they compete Thursday in their qualifier and hope to see them next weekend at state.”

Shawn Roberts finished 41st (19:17.28), Tanner Teske was 42nd (19:19.33), Omarion Myers-Zimmermann 47th (19:42.82) and Joshua Madden 50th (20:01.40).

Katie Rodamaker finished 48th in 27:04.40 with Chris Hulsebus 51st (30:34.17) and Brielle Crouch 52nd (31:05.80).
