Humboldt, Garrigan boys prevail at PAC
POCAHONTAS — The Humboldt and Bishop Garrigan boys track and field teams won titles here Friday at the Pocahontas Area Relays.
The Wildcats topped Webster City in the Class A race, while the Golden Bears held off Emmetsburg in Class B to defend their title. Humboldt also won its home meet on Thursday.
Pocahontas Area was third in A followed by Storm Lake and Algona. In B, Eagle Grove finished fourth, South Central Calhoun fifth and North Union sixth.
Caden Matson won both the 100 and 200 for Humboldt, with Jordan Coon (110 hurdles), Jackson Dodd (400 hurdles) and Carson Berte (long jump) joining him as event winners.
The Wildcats also claimed gold in the distance medley and shuttle hurdle relays.
Webster City’s J.J. Moore swept the throwing events, winning both the shot put and discus. Jose Ramirez claimed the 800 with the Lynx winning the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 relays.
For the host Indians, Josiah DeYoung was first in the 400, Adam Axman the 1,600 and Pocahontas Area picked up titles in the 4×800 and sprint medley relays.
Garrigan’s Quinn Swift won the distance races, placing first in both the 1,600 and 3,200. Collin Casey captured the high jump for the Golden Bears.
Emmetsburg’s Cade Shirk was a double winner, besting the field in the 110 hurdles and 400 hurdles. The E-Hawks won gold in the 4×100 and shuttle hurdle relays.
Jayden Soard had a big night, as the South Central Calhoun athlete won the long jump, discus and shot put events. For Eagle Grove, they had firsts in both the 4×200 and sprint medley relays.
Bryer Prochniak sped his way to gold in the 100 and 200 for North Union, with teammate Preston Guerdet winning the 800. The Warriors were also first in the distance medley relay.
