Fort Dodge seniors Tory Bennett and Aleaha Pommer continued their excellent play against Marshalltown here Monday night.

Bennett moved into sixth on the school’s career 5-on-5 scoring list, while Pommer moved closer to the Top-10 as the duo combined for 32 points in a 70-25 victory inside the FDSH gym.

With her 17-point effort, Bennett passed Loretha Mosley, as she now has 765 points. The University of Iowa softball recruit has made 263 field goals including 75 three-pointers during her four-year career.

Pommer now has 660 points after scoring 15, moving her to within 18 of Stacey Bergman for 10th. She has made 220 career field goals and 70 triples.

“We came out and played with a strong sense of urgency,” FDSH head coach Scott Messerly said. “I know we got the win Saturday at Des Moines East, but even the girls said they didn’t think they played well. We had a much better game (last night) with just a few lapses.

“We moved the ball, limited our turnovers and were able to get the younger kids some good minutes while staying prepared for Tuesday.”

Lainey Maehl and Jalen Adams joined Bennett and Pommer in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Pommer added five steals and five rebounds, as did Paytene Hiveley, who also scored seven points and blocked a shot.

Fort Dodge scored the first eight points of the game and led 13-5 after Bennett sank a triple to move past Mosley. She converted a three-point play to give the Dodgers a 16-5 lead.

That advantage grew to 30 on the heels of a 7-0 run by Maehl in the second as the junior finished the quarter with nine points in all.

“We tried to work on a few things while also looking to fine-tune a few others,” Messerly said. “We played better and we were focused.”

Fort Dodge has now won six in a row against Marshalltown and 21 of the last 28 overall. In seven games vs. the Bobcats, Bennett has scored 88 points and Pommer 61.
