Cowgirls top Gaels, reach 3-0

CLARION — The St. Edmond girls were unable to overcome critical stretches here Friday night, falling to Clarion-Goldfield/Dows, 46-24.

Lexie Lane paced the Cowgirls (3-0 overall) with 16 points, while freshman Ellie Ennis added 11. Sawyer Morrical had eight and Emma State seven.

“I applauded our girls for their defensive effort,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “We played tough, solid defense for 80-to-85 percent of the game, but those times we had mental lapses, Clarion-Goldfield/Dows took advantage and extended their lead.”

For the Gaels (0-2), Katie Flaherty scored eight points and Emma Alstott added four.

“We did a good job against their zone early, but they switched and we got timid,” Tracy said. “We didn’t attack until late in the game, and by that time, it was too late.

“We just have to be more aggressive and play with more confidence.”

Kierstin Clark and Emma Alstott chipped in four points each with Anna Kolacia, Silvia Heldorver and Gracie Harvey adding two. Mady Halverson and Alyson Nieland each had one for St. Edmond.

The Gaels host Southeast Valley on Tuesday night at 6:15 p.m.

In the junior varsity game, St. Edmond fell, 34-13. Kaili Henning had five points to lead the way.
