Iowa Central men lose in overtime to Indian Hills

An overtime goal left the Iowa Central men’s soccer team with a tough 2-1 setback here Saturday at Rogers Sports Complex to Indian Hills.

After battling to a 1-1 draw following 90 minutes of action, the Warriors knocked in a perfectly-placed header off a corner kick for the winner early in the extra session.

“That’s what happens in a match like that,” Iowa Central head coach Pablo Rodriguez said. “We had some chances late in the match to win it, but their keeper made some great saves. He’s an excellent keeper and he showed that.

“But our guys played a great match and they have nothing to hang their heads about. It’s a tough way to lose, but that’s sports. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose; it’s just the way it goes.”

Kabasele Musengo had his third goal of the season to give Iowa Central a lead in the first half off an assist by Kolby Godbolt.

Indian Hills tied it just before halftime with a goal.

Lucas Hazi Pollacchi had six shots and both Federico Belintende and Godbolt had two shots in the match. Come Grieu was credited with eight saves.

“We’ve just got to keep fighting and working,” Rodriguez said. “We’ve got one match left before postseason to prepare ourselves.”

Iowa Central will conclude the regular season on Tuesday when they travel to Council Bluffs to face Iowa Western.
