No. 1 Tritons move to 20

WAHPETON, N.D. — Top-ranked Iowa Central had no trouble improving to 20-0 here Saturday, scoring two more victories on the volleyball court.

The Tritons swept past Dakota County Technical and Jamestown JV at the North Dakota State College of Science Tournament.

“This is the fourth or fifth year we’ve come up to the NDSCS tournament and it’s always a good tournament for us to see some different teams and get some good competition,” Iowa Central head coach Sara Horn said. “Jamestown JV was our last opponent and their varsity team is No. 2 in NAIA, and is always a really tough team to play. We really did a great job this whole weekend but particularly in the last match of doing our jobs.

“Our bench was super great and brought some fun energy all weekend.

Katilyn Steffes had 10 kills, Angel Baylark nine, Haley Alharithy seven and Brooke Dobson six in the first match. Jori Hajek added five kills and 13 digs with Alesha Johnson picking up 31 assists and three aces.

“Our backcourt did a great job of putting Alesha in some good positions, Alesha did a great job mixing up our offense and finding our hot hitters, and our front row did a great job of putting a lot of pressure on teams with our attacking and blocking,” Horn said.

In the final match of the day, Baylark had 13 kills, Steffes nine and Dobson six. Alharithy chipped in five and Hajek four. Alesha Johnson had 35 assists to go along with three more aces and Baylyn Johnson 14 digs, with Dugan adding 13 digs and three aces.
