Tritons open year with home meet

Kris Graewin will get an early look at his Iowa Central golf teams on Monday at the Fort Dodge Country Club.

The Tritons will host Des Moines Area, Iowa Lakes and Barton, beginning at 11 a.m.

“We are looking forward to building on last year’s spring performance,” Graewin said. “We have five sophomores back from last year that have varsity experience, and a very talented freshman class.

“Our practices have been very competitive and the guys are ready to finally compete against some other teams.”

Iowa Central’s men placed a program-best fourth at nationals this past spring led by All-America finishes from Joe Forsting, Tomas Ribeiro and Austin Erickson. Graewin picked up ICCAC Coach fo the Year honors after leading the team to a runner-up showing at regionals.

On the women’s side, former Humboldt prep standout Kelly Boleyn qualified for nationals. That event was cut short due to impending weather.

“We’ve got a couple of freshman ladies that will be making their collegiate debuts, and I’m excited for that,” Graewin said. “They’ve been working very hard this preseason. Kelly has taken her game to another level this year from last, but with her class and lab schedule this semester, we’ll see how many tournaments she’s able to play in.”

The Tritons also have fall events planned through October before picking back up in the spring.

“One thing that I’ll be looking for all fall is if we are able to limit our mistakes,” Graewin said. “If we can eliminate mental mistakes, we’ve got a chance to have a successful year.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
