Gaels host home dual tournament

The St. Edmond wrestling team looks to put a cap on a big week by hosting their annual dual tournament here Saturday.

Along with the Gaels, Fort Dodge, Southeast Valley, AGWSR, West Hancock and Roland-Story will all have wrestlers in attendance. The action begins at 9 a.m.

This marks the third time since Tuesday that St. Edmond has hit the mats, a run that includes a dual victory over Coon Rapids-Bayard on Thursday.

Junior Tyler Rossmanith had a perfect night, capturing three victories including a fall. Sophomore Ronnie Orres picked up two victories and junior Grant Webster one during the quadrangular.

“We want to keep that momentum going,” SEHS head coach Eugene Carlson said. “A goal for all the kids wrestling (Saturday) is to go 4-1 on the day. We feel that is an achievable goal for each of them.

“We worked through a lot of drills (Friday) in practice with the emphasis being on them getting better and how each drill could make them a better wrestler for Saturday. Hopefully these guys come out and step up and compete.”

Ryan Duckett, a senior, remains sidelined through the weekend with freshman Zach Rossmanith joining him there after suffering an injury Thursday night.

West Hancock is ranked eighth as a team in Class 1A with five rated individuals including Kellen Smith (No. 6, 120 pounds), Bryer Subject (No. 7, 160), Justin Ausborn (No. 10, 170), Matthew Francis (No. 2, 195) and Cole Kelly (No. 7, 220).

AGWSR’s Trey Lashbrook is seventh at 126 in 1A with Roland-Story’s Kade Blume (No. 5, 106) ranked in 2A.

The Dodger lineup will consist of junior varsity wrestlers.

Elly Berry, a junior, will compete in a girls-division tournament at Ogden. Wrestling there also begins at 9 a.m.
