St. Edmond's Vinnie Harvey finished as St. Edmond's career wins leader.

Vinnie Harvey made a huge impact at St. Edmond on the football field and the wrestling mat.

While competing for the Gael wrestling team he finished as a two time medalist and a state runner up, making him only the second finalist in school history behind state champion Ben Becker.

Through the past decade the Gaels have earned 12 state medals to go along with the school’s wins leader and the only three time medalist in school history in Ryan Szalat.

Teddie Harvey the older brother of Vinnie Harvey was a two-time qualifier to go along with a fifth place medal.

Joining the Harvey brothers and Szalat on the Messenger’s all-decade St. Edmond wrestling team are three-time qualifier Kaden McClintock, Cole Allison, Payton Sitzmann, and Dillon Nelson.

FIRST TEAM

VINNIE HARVEY h 2014

Vinnie Harvey finished his St. Edmond wrestling career in the state finals, earning a silver medal.

He was the youngest of four brother (Frankie, Teddie, and Eddie) that competed for the St. Edmond wrestling team.

In his final two seasons Harvey finished 80-3 with all three of his losses coming at the state tournament. All of those losses were to Ryan Parmely of Maquoketa Valley. Harvey also qualified as a sophomore.

Harvey ran through his senior season unbeaten as he entered the championship against Parmely of who finished 52-1. Harvey fell short in a tight 4-3 match, his first loss in 37 bouts.

Harvey went on to wrestle at Iowa Central and coached a year for St. Edmond.

He finished his career as the school’s win leader with a career mark of 154-19.

Ryan szalat h 2015

Ryan Szalat is St. Edmond’s only three-time medalist.

Szalat finished his career with a record of 130-37. In his final season as a Gael, he was eighth at state with a record of 33-13.

He won 107 matches in his final three seasons, placing seventh and eighth as a sophomore (43-6) and junior (31-8).

Kaden Mcclintock h 2014

Kaden McClintock was a three-time qualifier for the Gaels. McClintock racked up 135 victories and only 15 defeats.

He qualified in 2012 and finished sixth and seventh respectively as a junior and senior.

His senior year he was 27-3 a year after earning 42 victories for the Gaels.

teddie harvey h 2013

Teddie Harvey had a tremendous career for the Gaels, earning 147 victories and only 24 defeats.

In his junior campaign Harvery grabbed a fifth place podium spot.

Harvey had a tough bracket to go through in his final season as he finished 41-2, suffering his only losses at the state tournament. He lost to the eventual third and fourth place finishers.

Harvey went on to wrestle at Iowa Central.

Cole Allison h 2017

Cole Allison finished his Gael career as a two-time medalist.

In his sophomore campaign he went 33-8 at 120 pounds and finished eighth. As a junior he finished 28-7 and placed sixth.

SECOND TEAM

Payton Sitzmann h 2016

Payton Sitzmann was a two-time qualifier for the Gaels. He went 31-14 as a junior qualifier.

He came back and finished 37-7 with a seventh place showing at 138 pounds for St. Edmond.

dillon nelson h 2013

Dillon Nelson had a strong senior campaign for the Gaels, placing fifth at 182 pounds with a record of 39-11.

He lost his first state match, but bounced back with three straight wins before losing and then winning his fifth place match.

He lost to eventual champion Dalton Ciavarelli of Clarksville in the opener and third place finisher Andrew Wellik of Emmetsburg on the backside.
