Cowgirls win again

CLARION — The Clarion-Goldfield/Dows girls experienced an incredible volleyball season this past fall. Now, they are hoping to duplicate that on the basketball court.

The Cowgirls jumped out to a 32-5 lead and never looked back here Friday night, downing St. Edmond, 61-27.

Raven Kinnetz scored a game-high 17 points, with Quinn Hansch adding 15 and Courtney Harle nine for the Cowgirls.

“They are right up there with the top teams in the North Central Conference,” SEHS head coach Steve Neuberger said. “They might not have as many scorers as some of the other teams, but they do what they do very well. Their 3-2 zone makes it tough and they are efficient on offense.”

Leah Neverman had 10 points to lead the Gaels.

“We defended better after that first quarter,” Neuberger said. “We just let them have too many open looks and had too many careless turnovers early on.”

Clarion-Goldfield/Dows has now won five in a row, improving to 7-2 on the year overall and 4-2 in the North Central Conference. They head to Pocahontas Area Monday and Southeast Valley on Tuesday before hosting Algona next Friday.

St. Edmond (0-9, 0-6) will have three chances to earn its first victory of the season next week, hosting Eagle Grove on Monday, Manson Northwest Webster on Thursday and heading to Iowa Falls-Alden on Friday.
