Dodgers run out of steam

URBANDALE — The Fort Dodge boys found the going tough here in the second half vs. Urbandale, dropping a 66-44 decision.

After taking an early lead 13-8 lead, and still holding a two-point advantage at the half, the Dodgers were outscored 41-17 over the final 16 minutes.

This was Fort Dodge’s fourth game since Monday night, including three in a row on the road.

“I’m sure we have plenty of fatigue, but we have to fight through that,” FDSH head coach Tom Daniel said. “The bigger issue with playing this many games in a row is a lack of practice time and time to plan for games.”

Dayson Clayton led the Dodgers with 11 points, while Monterius Altman-Abrams added eight. Averey Martin scored seven and Tysen Kershaw six.

“We know our offense still has plenty to work on, but we’ve got to be better on the defensive end as well,” Daniel said. “We can’t give up 66 points or that many in the second half.”

For the J-Hawks, Grant DeKruyf scored 19, Drew Dykstra added 15 and Cal Watson had 10.

Urbandale took control of the game in the third, scoring 10 consecutive points.

“We were still down just nine when we missed a free throw and they went down for an uncontested layup in the final five seconds,” Daniel said. “Those are things we just cannot do.”

Fort Dodge returns to action on Tuesday when they host Ames.
