WAUKEE — The third-ranked (Class 5A) Fort Dodge softball team was on the brink of setting the tone with a road victory over No. 1 Waukee on Monday.

The Warriors instead turned the tide on the Dodgers in a rally that sparked a doubleheader and season sweep of FDSH.

Waukee plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the Dodgers in game one, 8-6. The Warriors also took the nightcap, 6-2.

The Dodgers (18-5 overall, 5-3 in the CIML Iowa Conference) plated three runs in the first inning of the opener, and led 5-2 in the fifth before Waukee (25-2, 9-1) made a comeback similar to the one at Rogers Park in the nightcap earlier this season. After a two-run fifth, the Warriors scored four times to catch and pass visiting FDSH at the finish line.

Senior Daphne Alstott doubled and drove in three runs for the Dodgers, while senior Aubrey Davis went 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Freshman Tory Bennett doubled and scored a run, while freshman Jalen Adams was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Heidi Wheeler and Jalyn Yaukovitz both drove in a pair for Waukee, which swept Fort Dodge at Rogers Park as well, 10-6 and 14-9 in extra innings. Wheeler, Yaukovitz and Delaney Taylor had two hits a piece.

The Warriors tallied two runs in the first inning and three more in the second of the latter contest. DMACC recruit Molly Jacobson homered, had three hits and drove in two.

Tristin Doster doubled and scored for the Dodgers, while Alstott and Sophia Klinger both drove in runs.

Waukee struck out only once in the doubleheader.

Fort Dodge is back in action against another top-rated squad on Tuesday, as the Dodgers face No. 1 (Class 4A) Carlisle (23-2) for a single varsity tilt at 7 p.m. at Rogers Park.
