Gaels fight off slow start

HAMPTON — The St. Edmond volleyball team overcame some adversity here Thursday night to win their North Central Conference opener.

The Gaels downed Hampton-Dumont/CAL by scores of 24-26, 25-18, 25-16 and 25-22.

Josie Huss led the way for St. Edmond with eight kills and seven aces, as Chloe Lewison added five kills.

Cambrie McBride chipped in with three kills, an ace and 16 digs, Macey Mason had 17 digs and an ace, Jacque Oberg recorded seven digs, three kils and three aces, and Rylee Kinney had two aces and nine digs.

“We started with great ball control and were able to get a nice lead,” SEHS head coach Dee Huss said. “The girls are very coachable, though, so even when we let them come back and win the first, I wasn’t worried.

“We have so many players that can step up when we need them to.”

The Gaels return to action next Thursday when they face defending league champion Iowa Falls-Alden on the road.
