Triton women remain in first at nationals

LEVELLAND, Tex. – The Iowa Central men’s and women’s track and field teams were in action on the second day of the NJCAA Div. I outdoor track and field championships here Wednesday.

The Triton women remain in first place with 63 points, while the men now sit in second with 51.

Mallory Vawter (long jump, 18-6.5) and Janeah Stewart (shot put, 51-9.25) each settled for runner-up efforts for the Iowa Central women.

Danielle Riggins was first for the Tritons in both the 100 hurdle prelims (13.82) and 200 (23.82), while Eboni Cody also posted the top qualifying mark (11.65) in the 100.

In the 4×100 prelims, Iowa Central (Codi, Ariel Jackson, Riggins and Bennisha Nunn, 46.14) came in second.

Leading the way for the Triton men with third-place performances were Jamal Whittaker (shot put, 57-4.25) and Jai-Nhai Perinchief (24-10.5). Sydne Davis was also third for Iowa Central in the 110 hurdle prelims (14.31).

South Plains (74) currently paces the men’s field. New Mexico (40) and South Plains (33) are second and third in the women’s race.
