Marilyn Peterson-Shipp

Marilyn J. Peterson-Shipp, 89, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at her home.

A service honoring Marilyn’s life will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 23, at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Paul Masters officiating. Interment will follow at North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter Pamela (Steve) Gollob; two grandchildren, Kaela (Preston) Nerhus, and Kacee (fiance` Jacob Laird) Gollob; her sister Eileen Lemons, her brothers, Larry (Yvonne), Vernon (Darlene), Dallas (Mary) and Phillip (Linda) Thomas; her sister-in-law Merna Thomas, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, Glenn and Dean, her brothers, Gerald and Howard, and her sister Rosalie Ashbridge.

Marilyn Jean Thomas, the daughter of Harley and Mabel (Binder) Thomas, was born July 5, 1935, in Hiawatha, Kansas. She graduated from Barnum High School. Marilyn was united in marriage to Glenn Peterson on October 6, 1957, in Fort Dodge. Glenn preceded her in death in 1999. On February 14, 2002, Marilyn was united in marriage to Ollie Dean Shipp. Dean preceded her in death in 2008. Marilyn was a cost accountant with Fort Dodge Labs. She also worked for Dr. Crawford as office manager for 20 years, and for Fort Dodge Creamery. For many years, Marilyn owned and operated Shaklee Products.

Marilyn was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deacon and was a member of her church circle. She was a member and past president of the Fort Dodge Federated Garden Club, member of Fort Dodge Area Garden Club, Izaak Walton League, she was a Master Gardener and a Nationally Accredited Flower Show judge. Marilyn enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing cards, Rummikub, tending her flower garden, and attending the many activities of her granddaughters, never missing a game.
