David Leo Crimmins

With deep love and heavy hearts, we share the passing of David “Dave” Crimmins, who left us peacefully after a brief battle with cancer on the morning of May 6th, 2025. Known to many simply as “Grandpa Dave,” he touched countless lives with his boundless kindness, quick wit, and unmistakable gift for turning strangers into lifelong friends.
At the center of Dave's life was his wife, Julie, the love of his life and his best friend. Their story began when they were just 14 years old, and their love only grew stronger over decades of marriage, family, and unwavering devotion. Together, they built a life full of laughter, adventure, and love that inspired everyone who knew them.
Dave was the proud father of three children: Matthew (Kati) of Mason City, Michael (Marissa) of Fort Dodge, and Katie (Josh) of Waukee. He often said he was blessed twice over to have two beloved bonus daughters, Allison and Clare, both of Milwaukee. He is survived by his loving mother, Genevieve Crimmins, and his siblings Karen Stucky, Denny (Maureen), Kevin (Kathy), Mark (Nancy), and Mary Jo (Craig) Friederich – shared a lifetime of close connection, laughter, and love with him. Dave also had a group of amazing nieces and nephews who he loved deeply.
Nothing brought Dave more joy than his nine grandchildren: Olivia, Andrew, Madelyn; Matthew, Mark, Mia; Max, Jack, and Anna. Whether cheering from the sidelines, offering quiet advice, or sneaking in a well-timed joke, Dave poured his heart into every moment with them.
A proud St. Edmond graduate, Dave's life was also defined by his dedication to work and his faith. He spent 30 years with White Transfer, where he became a trusted colleague and friend to many. Later, he shared his knowledge and work ethic with students while teaching at Iowa Central. He took his knowledge and expertise and started DLC Transport, which he proudly owned and operated until the day he died – and he truly loved every minute of it. His strong work ethic, sharp sense of humor, and contagious laughter were always close at hand.
We will remember Dave for his fierce love of Julie and their family, his unstoppable spirit, and the way he made each of us feel like the most important person in the room. His legacy of love, laughter, and hard work will live on in all of us. He is preceded in death by his father, Leo; his brother, Mike; in-laws Dick and Jody Condon; as well as brothers-in-law Matt Condon and Dale Stucky.
