MARY ELLEN PHILLIPS

Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2021, at the Marian Home Chapel, 2400 – 6th Avenue North in Fort Dodge. Visitors are asked to enter the west side entrance of the Chapel. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Gunderson Funeral Home.

Mary Ellen was born July 11, 1935, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She attended Otho High School. In 1953, she was united in marriage to Don G. Phillips. Mary Ellen worked at the Community Orchard from 1969-1977. She then was employed by Becker’s Westside Florist from 1977 to 1995, finishing up her career at HyVee Floral from 2003-2016.

Mary Ellen is survived by her children, Michael (Theresa) Phillips, Otho, Theresa (Leo) Kapler, Woodbury, MN, Mary Ann (Dave) Benson, Forney, TX, and Mark (Linda) Phillips, Slidell, Louisiana; sister Margaret Barnett, Otho, brothers Mike (Jan) Brown, Fort Dodge, and James Brown, Otho. She also leaves six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Don; parents Burnell and Viola (Schumacher) Brown; brother, William; and granddaughter, Amy Kapler.

She was a light to many bringing sunshine to whomever came across her path. She will be deeply missed.
