1932-2021
Roger Glasnapp, age 88, of rural Lytton, IA, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on February 8, 2021. Roger was born on June 5, 1932, to parents Richard and Emma (Kreft) Glasnapp near Yetter, IA, from where he rode his pony to country school, attended Lake City High School and graduated in 1950. Roger married his high school sweetheart, Marlene Lasher, on March 9, 1952, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, rural Sac City, IA, the church in which he had been baptized in 1932, and confirmed in 1946, and was a lifelong parishioner. Roger & Marlene were blessed with four children: Renee, Timothy, Robin, and Dana. After his marriage, Roger farmed 5 miles southeast of Lytton, where the family lived until 1973, when Roger and Marlene purchased and moved to a farm 1 mile south of Lytton. This past fall, Roger was still farming alongside his grandsons, Caleb and Joe.In 1962, Roger and Marlene bought Laverne “Dutch” & Beulah Segebarth’s truck line, operating the newly named Glasnapp Transfer, providing “Almost Perfect Service” from West Virginia to Montana. In 2003, Roger was inducted into the Iowa Tractor Pulling Assn. Hall of Fame, of which he was a founding member. An announcer for many years at the Sac Co. Fair tractor pull, he’d tell jokes when there was a lull in the action, which produced laughter, chuckles, or groans.Loyal Hawkeye fans, Roger and Marlene attended many bowl games -Go Hawks!A big supporter of Lytton, he’d use his four-wheeler to line up entries for the Gala Days “Big Parade”, and would support the town in numerous other ways.
