Marlene Pieper

Marlene Pieper, 85, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at her home after fighting a brief battle with leukemia. A private family service will be held at a later date. Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements.

Marlene Joan (Johnson) Pieper was born on January 9, 1936 in Beulah, North Dakota, to the late Harold and Pearl (Tjaden) Johnson. Marlene’s family moved to Peterson, Iowa in 1939. There she was raised and graduated high school in May of 1953.

Marlene attended Northwestern Junior College in Orange City and then went on to National Business Training School in Sioux City.

On May 20, 1956, she married Melvin Pieper. They lived in many Iowa communities during Melvin’s career including Spencer, Postville, DeWitt, Eagle Grove and Twin Lakes.

Marlene worked at Spencer Chamber of Commerce and as a teacher associate. She was also a branch manager of a Savings and Loan, worked at a Farm Credit Association and was an assistant administrator of a Care Center.

Marlene had been a member of United Methodist Women since 1970.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin Fred Pieper; son, Jason Harold Pieper and his wife, Jennifer Lynn; daughter Jody Sue Donahe and her husband, James and three grandchildren: Matthew Jason Pieper, Jonathan David Pieper, and Katie Marlene Donahe-Boland. She is also survived by a sister, Ellen Charlotte (Johnson) James and a brother, Vernon Lee Johnson and many nieces and nephews.
