DENNIS L. WHITTINGTON

Dennis L. Whittington, 73, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Wednes­day, Dec­ember 19, 2018 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. Services will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Saturday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fort Dodge.

Dennis LaVern Whittington, the son of Basil and Marty Stanberg, was born January 1, 1945 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He attended country school through the 8th grade then graduated in 1963 from Fort Dodge Senior High.

Dennis worked at Eddie’s East End Grocery in Fort Dodge before be married Matilda “Tillie” Coleman on June 26, 1965 in Fort Dodge. After their marriage the couple made their home in Fort Dodge. Dennis worked for the Box Factory in Fort Dodge until it closed then worked at Woodruff Construction in Fort Dodge. Due to an untimely stroke, Dennis was forced to retire early.

Dennis was a member of the North Central Iowa Pigeon Association receiving his life time achievement award from them this year.

He is survived by his wife, Matilda “Tillie” and their four children, David (Kim) Whittington of Fort Dodge, Shelly (Mitch) Kraft of Fort Dodge, Steve Whittington of Fort Dodge and Chad (Faith) Whittington of Michigan; 10 grandchildren, Krystal (David) Brown, Kyle (Tatum) Whittington, Kallie Whittington, Michelle Kraft, MaKenzie Kraft, MaCaella Kraft, Dylan (Ashley) Wolfetornabane, Breana Whittington, Wesley Whittington, and Isabella Whittington; 9 great grandchildren; and his three siblings, Linda (Larry) Dencklau, Bob (Louise) Stanberg and Laurie (Bill) Murphy. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joe Stanberg.
