BRIAN JAMES SPANGLER

ANKENY — Brian James Spangler, 60, of Ank­eny, Iowa, passed away Tues­day, May 1st, 2018, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Brian was born Nov­ember 22nd, 1957 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to the parents of James and Phyllis Spangler.

Brian grew up on the family farm near Woolstock, Iowa. He attended grade school in Woolstock and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1976. He worked his professional career in the trucking industry as a dispatcher and operations manager. Brian was an avid Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan, making many trips throughout the years to cheer them on. Brian never knew a stranger and was friends with people from all walks of life. He was known for his sense of humor and infectious smile. His favorite pastime was attending family gatherings where many memories were made. His big heart was only matched by his big appetite. He loved food, whether it was a home cooked meal from his wife, mother, or daughters, a hole in the wall dive, or a five-star restaurant

Brian was dearly loved by all of his family and is survived by his wife of 40 years, Rhonda, four daughters, Amy (Terry O’Connor) Spangler, Ali (Eric) McLeish, Jessica (Chris) Neal, Lynsey (Chris) Harris and grandchildren, James and Jillian O’Connor, Chase, Evie and Violet McLeish, and Hutch and Holland Harris. He is also survived by his mother Phyllis Spangler, brothers Dean (Jeanne) Spangler and Loren Spangler, mother in law Marilyn Bartosh, brothers in law Mark (Kim) Bartosh, Scott (Muthani) Bartosh, David (Ginni) Bartosh, sisters in law Teresa (Curt) Middleton, and Sarah Bartosh. many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends including Larry Kuder, Bob Hill, Marty Woods and Perry Arrington. He is preceded in death by his father James, sister Joanne and nephew Ric.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday June 15th from 6 to 10 pm at the Lakeside Center in Ankeny, Iowa.

Memorial Contributions can be made to Children’s Cancer Connection in Des Moines, Iowa in honor of his granddaughter Evie.
