Sac City man charged in drug case

SAC CITY – A routine traffic stop led to a man facing drug charges in Sac City.

Jonathan Coats, of Sac City, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Coats was pulled over by a Sac City police officer around 1:20 a.m. on March 21 after allegedly speeding, according to Sac City Police Chief John Thomsen.

Officers allegedly found a bag of marijuana and a glass pipe with marijuana residue in the car after Coats allowed the officer to search, Thomsen said.

“An investigation later found that Mr. Coats had allegedly purchased the ounce of marijuana with the intent of breaking it up and selling it,” according to Thomsen.

Coats’ preliminary hearing is set for April 9.
