LEHIGH — Webster County Conservation is holding a Tuesday at Ten Hike at 10 a.m. April 16 at Skillet Creek Indian Mounds, Dayton. The area is located five miles east of Dayton, just north of the Highway 175 bridge and the Carlson Recreation Area.
The Almost Home Humane Society and Clothes Bin have partnered to collect and recycle old clothing, shoes and textiles. Just place the items in the green recycling bin near the shelter parking lot. Every pound of recycled items supports the shelter. Items that can be placed in the bins are clothing; footwear; undergarments; accessories, such as hats, belts, ties, scarves and headbands; handbags, such as wallets, totes, luggage, backpacks and briefcases; and linens, such as towels, sheets, comforters, blankets and tablecloths.
Westside Church of Christ, 1132 A St., is requesting donations of clean, gently used clothing for its clothes closet. All sizes from infant to adult will be accepted until April 17. An event will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 27 for those in need to come and get clothing free of charge. Fort Dodge Senior High is holding a Kosovo fundraising scavenger hunt at 1 p.m. April 13 in the east side of the large student parking lot at Fort Dodge Senior High, 819 N. 25th St. Cost is $10 per person for teams of three to five. Children ages 8 and under are free. Each team will need a legal driver. Teams will travel around Fort Dodge decoding clues for prizes. The 2100 block of Ninth Avenue South will be closed to traffic beginning Monday, according to the Fort Dodge Public Works Department. That block is expected to be closed most of the week. Although the street is being closed for the placement of a water main valve, it is not anticipated that water will have to be shut off to any nearby residences or businesses.
Area residents will be able to safely and properly get rid of any unwanted paint or chemicals during a collection to be held today as part of the Shimkat Motor Co. Home & Farm Show brought to you by The Messenger and Farm News. The collection will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. by the North Central Iowa Regional Solid Waste Agency at the East Campus of Iowa Central Community College, 2031 Quail Ave. Cleaners, paint, lawn and garden sprays, insecticides and aerosol containers are among the things that will be accepted.
