Military Academy event set for Wednesday

A 4th District Military Academy Day will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Triton Cafe at Iowa Central Community College. The event, sponsored by U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra, R-Hull, is for students in eighth through 12th grades interested in applying to one of the nation’s military academies. Representatives from all five academies will be present. Freedom Pointe Easter celebration is Saturday

Freedom Pointe, 1303 A. St., will hold an Easter celebration from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. There will be an egg hunt, games, prizes, snacks and Easter Bunny visit.

Moose Lodge Egg Hunt is Saturday

Moose Lodge 806 will hold its annual Easter egg hunt at noon Saturday at Dodger Stadium, 1930 Elmhurst Ave. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. Cost is 50 cents per child. Prizes will be awarded after the hunt. Rain date is April 26.

Fish kill reported in Lizard Creek

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating a fish kill in the South Branch of Lizard Creek in Webster County. On Monday, the DNR Field Office in Mason City received a call from CJ Bio America regarding a leak at their facility in the ag industrial park west of Fort Dodge called Iowa’s Crossroads of Global Innovation. A fertilizer byproduct created in the process of making the amino acid lysine had emptied into a stormwater channel on the east side of the plant.
