WCCT auditions are Sunday, Monday

WEBSTER CITY — Auditions for Webster City Community Theatre’s April production, “These Shining Lives” by Melanie Marnich, will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday and 7 p.m. on Monday. Try-outs will be held at the theater, 1001 Willson Ave. Stephanie Hill is the director and Sally Evans is the assistant director.

The drama is based on the true story of four women who worked for the Radium Dial Company, a watch factory based in Ottawa, Illinois, in 1922-1938. The young women, who were eager to join the work force, painted watch dials with radium-containing luminescent paint that glowed in the dark. Though the practice endangered their health, the company was unconcerned about the rights of its employees. This story could be a tragedy, but these women were very courageous, and always hopeful.

There are roles for the four young women: Catherine Donohue, Charlotte Purcell, Frances O’Connell, and Pearl Payne. Two males will play the roles of Catherine’s husband and the company supervisor. Additional actors are needed for doctors, an attorney, judge, Catherine’s son and daughter, reporters, and a radio announcer.

Production dates are April 13-16. The cast is 4 to 6 women and 2 to 4 men. The women are in their mid- to late 20s. The husband should be mid- to late 20s; the rest can vary.

Scripts will be available at Kendall Young Library today for a two-day checkout. Questions can be emailed to Stephanie Hill at srhill1216@gmail.com.

Starting at $2.99/week.
