Duncombe City Council to fill vacancy

DUNCOMBE — The Duncombe City Council plans to fill a vacant seat on the council during its Feb. 10 meeting.

The city announced on Monday that Council Member Ryan Hanson had resigned his seat on Dec. 20. Iowa Code allows the City Council to fill a vacancy by appointment.

However, the electors in Duncombe have the right to file a petition to require the vacancy be filled by a special election. Petitions for a special election to fill the vacancy will need to be submitted by the Feb. 10 meeting.

People wishing to be considered to be appointed to the vacancy should submit a request in writing to the city clerk by noon on Feb. 8 at City Hall, 421 Main St.

Hanson was elected to a four-year term in November 2019 and his term was set to expire on Dec. 31, 2023.

The appointment filling the vacancy would be effective from Feb. 10 until the next city election in November 2021.
