Dickens of a Christmas canceled

Yet another holiday event is having a dickens of a time this year.

The Dickens of a Christmas Craft and Vendor Show, an annual favorite at the Fort Museum Opera House, has been canceled. The event was planned for Saturday evening until Gov. Kim Reynolds’ new public health restrictions were announced Monday amid a devastating resurgence of COVID-19 that has crippled healthcare resources.

At 6 p.m. Monday, Reynolds announced that many indoor social events of more than 15 people would no longer be allowed.

Shoppers at the annual themed event have enjoyed Santa and Mrs. Claus, local vendors and time period carolers since 2017. The cancellation is the first one in the event’s history.

“People still want things to do,” said Laura Crowl, event and communication manager, before the cancellation, hoping it could still move forward with masks.
