St. Mark’s to host Revival 2017

Family activities, worship service planned for today

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Fort Dodge will be the site of an event today intended to energize the faith of congregation members and others in the community.

Revival 2017 is ”an opportunity to gather together local congregations to reawaken and rediscover God’s Holy Spirit at work among us,” said Mary Kay Daniel, a congregation member who helped organize the event.

It is not just for members of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, she said.

”Everyone is welcome to come,” she said. ”If you just want to find out a little bit about St. Mark’s or if you want to recharge your faith, it would be a great time to come.”

The event will begin at 3 p.m. at the church, 1007 First Ave. S.

From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., there will be games and family activities in the church parking lot.

Walking tacos, cookies and other food will be served beginning at 4 p.m.

The revival service will begin at 5 p.m. The Rev. Alan Scarfe, Episcopal bishop of Iowa, and Bishop Michael Last, the interim rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, will lead it. The service will include music, personal testimony and several prayer stations. Daniel said people attending the service will move to the different prayer stations. Each station will have a specific focus, such as renewal of baptismal vows.

”This will be a service unlike any other service,” Daniel said.

Food will be served again after the service.
