Two water main jobs planned in Fort Dodge

A pair of often-broken water mains will be replaced this year under contracts awarded by the Fort Dodge City Council Monday.

The first one is along Kenyon Road between U.S. Highway 169 and Triton Plaza. A break there a couple of winters ago sent a geyser of water into the air.

The City Council on Monday hired Doyle Construction to replace that main with a new 16-inch diameter one at a cost of $243,974.25.

Other bidders for the job were Riley-Armstrong Plumbing & Heating, Fort Dodge, $295,350; Wynn Co., Warsaw, Illinois, $300,650; Tri State Excavating, Hamilton Illinois, $310,820; Rasch Construction Inc., Fort Dodge, $311,905; Max Smith Construction, Creston, $342,106.50; and On Track Construction, Nevada, $364,288.

The other water main to be replaced extends along Avenue O between L Street and Avenue B. Doyle Construction was hired to replace that one at a cost of $946,810.

Other bidders for that job were Riley-Armstrong Plumbing & Heating, $1,065,998; Rasch Construction, $1,104,515; On Track Construction, $1,169,955; Max Smith Construction, $1,190,500; Crow River Construction, New London, Minnesota, $1,336,484; and Gehrke Inc., Eldora $1,777,716.

The contracts were awarded by unanimous votes with no discussion.

Both water main jobs will start this spring.

Starting at $4.94/week.
