Taking center stage with Jonah Mosier
Carrying a tune; Singing, acting, hanging out with friends has been driving force for Mosier

Jonah Mosier started practicing the craft of acting at a young age.
It wasn’t to get better or to become a star, it was just to have fun.
With his brother Caleb, the St. Edmond Catholic School senior would play in the living room and come up with their own games.
As a Gael, Mosier has been involved with speech, where he gets the chance to do improv.
“When my brother and I played when we were younger, we started out our games with ‘A man walks into the building,'” Mosier said. “And then we go — we don’t plan out the game at all.
“Improv is kind of like that, just not that extreme. Improv helps me during the musical by allowing me to keep going if I mess up. If I forget a line or say the wrong line, then I can use my improv skills to kind of fix that.”
Those acting skills also allow Mosier to bring that to the stage during musicals. He has taken part in three at St. Edmond.
He has been in “Willy Wonka,” “Annie” and “Grease.”
“I love the behind the scenes part during performances,” Mosier said. “Acting with my friends on stage, and wearing awesome costumes. I love suspenders, and I wear them every musical.”
Mosier has been involved in a number of activities and has still progressed in the classroom.
“A lot of the time I work on homework during practices,” Mosier said. “Like if I don’t have to be on stage for a couple of songs, I work on homework.”
Mosier also takes part in choir, track, band, and auditioned for chamber choir. He is also involved in Boy Scouts.
The St. Edmond senior comes from a family that loves music.
“My family is a very musical family,” Mosier said. “So I’ve been singing my whole life. I absolutely love singing.”
Mosier hasn’t been an Iowan his whole life, as he was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and moved to Iowa when he was 6.
Since becoming a Gael, he has loved being part of the Green and White.
“I love hanging out with friends,” Mosier said. “Cheering them on during sports and being around music.”
Mosier also has a passion for Boy Scouts, which he started when he was in the fifth grade.
“I started Boy Scouts in fifth grade and Cub Scouts when I was in first grade,” Mosier said. “I do all sorts of fun activities with my friends. Every Monday we have a meeting, which is also fun.
“The main thing I like about it is hanging out with my friends.
“Some new skills I have learned are how to whittle better, how to use my resources to look and identify nature better, and how to cook a variety of foods.”
Mosier is also highly involved in his church.
“I serve at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Boone,” Mosier said. “When I serve I help out the priest and deacon during Mass.
“I mainly help out the priest during Communion. I prepare the altar before, then clear off the altar.”
There are a variety of reasons why Mosier likes to stay busy, but being involved and close to friends is one of the key ones.
“It keeps me busy and allows me to hang out with my friends more,” Mosier said. “I feel like I would be bored a lot if I wasn’t involved in so much.
Also, the school day is not long enough to enjoy my friends as much as I want.”
There are a lot of things left to accomplish in his senior year, but Mosier is not looking forward to it ending.
“I’m looking forward to Senior Splash-In, senior gifts for choir, and not having to share a seat on the bus,” Mosier said. “One thing I am not looking forward to is graduating. A lot of people find that surprising, but I don’t want to leave all of my friends. I’ll also be leaving a familiar place, which is sad.”
Mosier has had a strong support staff behind him that has helped guide him through school and his life.
“My dad (Joel Mosier) and my brother (Caleb) and John Wayne have been big influences for me,” Mosier said. “My dad is the best Catholic I know, and taught me a lot about the Catholic faith. Caleb acts as my counselor and helps me with anything I need.
“John Wayne is a good role model. He is a very brave and tough man.”
After graduation Mosier plans on attending Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas.
“Benedictine is the same college my sisters (twins, Emily and Nicole) are going to,” Mosier said. I plan to major in biology and become a teacher, zookeeper, or something else that deals with animals.
“I plan to have a lot of pets when I’m older, too. Those include chickens, ducks, turkeys, peacocks, parrots, cats, dogs, goats, sheep, and maybe a horse or cow.”
