Area veterans meet with lawmakers

Veteran members of Fort Dodge’s Walter Porsch Post 1856 arrived at the State Capitol for Iowa’s Vets on the Hill event. The Post members spent the day speaking with their district representatives and senators about the wants, needs and concerns of veterans. State Sen. State Rep. Ann Meyer, R-Fort Dodge, listens as Jim Peterson explains the resolutions and issues that are important to veterans, Pederson is a life member and trustee for VFW Post 1856 and also an American Legion life member from Gowrie Iowa’s Peterson Post 431. Peterson served honorably for 30 years in the military, retiring at the rank of sergeant first class. He was the American Legion state commander in 2015 and 2016. He works very hard for veterans at the state level and at the national level in Washington, DC. He is retired mail carrier for the United States Post Office for Gowrie and is still currently an EMT driver for the Gowrie fire and rescue team.
