From London’s West End to Fort Dodge

The Barricade Boys bring Broadway to Iowa Central

By Kelli Bloomquist 2 min read

From the streets of revolutionary Paris to the heart of Fort Dodge, The Barricade Boys will bring their powerhouse celebration of musical theater to Decker Auditorium later this month, offering a chance to hear Broadway's biggest songs performed by some of its leading voices.

Made up of some of Broadway and the West End's most in-demand leading men, The Barricade Boys first came together through their shared history in "Les Miserables" and have since built an international following.

"I am beyond excited to welcome the Barricade Boys to Decker Auditorium," said Brady O'Brien, coordinator for the Iowa Central Community College Center of Performing Arts."I had the chance to see them live a couple of years ago and their energy on stage is absolutely electric. Fort Dodge is in for an unforgettable night."

The Jan. 31 concert will be held at Decker Auditorium and will feature a mix of ensemble numbers and solo performances of some of the most recognizable songs in musical theater.

The Barricade Boys was born when two friends and cast members of "Les Miserables" had an idea to create a night at the musicals that was like no other.

Scott Garnham and Simon Schofield had a vision of creating a night in which concert-goers' favorite musicals blended together with the greatest pop, rock, and swing numbers.

Between them, members of The Barricade Boys have a list of West End credits including "Mama Mia," "Wicked," "Billy Elliot," "The Book of Mormon," "The Sound of Music," "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and "Phantom of the Opera."

"The Barricade Boys deliver a show that feels like Broadway on caffeine," said O'Brien. "With their big vocals, nonstop energy, and a whole lot of fun from start to finish."

According to O'Brien, bringing nationally touring acts like The Barricade Boys to Fort Dodge is part of an ongoing effort to expand the range of performing arts available to local audiences.

Tickets are still available for the Jan. 31 concert by contacting the Iowa Central Community College Box Office or logging on to IowaCentral.edu/Tickets.
