Hallways to Highway car show set for FDSH
Fort Dodge Senior High School’s two-year-old Racing Club will be holding the “Hallways to Highways” car show from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the high school, 819 N. 25th St.
The show will help raise funds for Racing Club students to gain hands-on experience and opportunities in the world of racing, fabrication and engineering, according to adviser Jeremiah Reed, an industrial tech teacher at the high school.
The group also has a goal of attending the Performance Racing Industry trade show in Indianapolis this December.
“It’s more than just a car show,” said Reed. “It’s a celebration of our students’ hard work and passion for motor sports.”
The Racing Club meets weekly at the high school. Reed, who races an IMCA Sport Modified himself, has kids work on his car, or he brings in mechanics from another shop who work with race cars. He also takes kids to visit shops in town.
He hopes to take kids to a race somewhere in central Iowa. Last year, they attended a Late Model race in Marshalltown.
There are 18 students in the club this year.
The show on Friday will include a variety of cars on display from classics to modern builds. The show will be held in the east parking lot of the high school. Reed said there will be parking for those attending in the east lot as well.
“It’s a fun, family-friendly evening supporting our students,” said Reed. “If you have a car you’d like to show off, we’d love to have you bring it.”
Reed said they are only asking for a free will donation for those attending the event. There will also be food to purchase from Ducking Yum and music from Elite Entertainment.
“Your presence makes this event special for our kids,” he said.
