Campbell to head state agency

Reynolds taps him to lead Dept. of Administrative Services

Former Webster County Supervisor Mark Campbell has been named the director of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services.

Gov. Kim Reynolds announced the appointment on Wednesday. Campbell will start on the job Monday.

The Department of Administrative Services is responsible for the state government’s human resources functions, purchasing and procurement, the vehicle fleet and accounting. It also oversees the capitol complex in Des Moines. The State Library of Iowa and the State Historical Society of Iowa are part of the department as well.

In a statement issued by Reynolds’ office, Campbell said “I’m honored to be appointed by Gov. Reynolds to serve as director of the Department of Administrative Services. I look forward to working with the committed staff to ensure DAS continues to provide efficient and transparent services that support state government.’

“DAS requires accountability and collaboration to strengthen the foundation for every agency to best serve Iowans,” he added.

Campbell did not return a call seeking comment on his new post.

Campbell, a Democrat, will likely be one of the highest ranking Democrats in the administration of Reynolds, a Republican.

He was a Webster County supervisor from 2013 to 2024, and was the chairman of the Board of Supervisors for much of that time. Most recently he has been the chief operating officer and human resources director for the North Central Iowa Regional Solid Waste Agency.

He is the owner of Amigo’s in Fort Dodge.

Starting at $4.94/week.
