Animal ordinance on FD City Council agenda

Boston Centre grant also up for discussion

The Fort Dodge City Council will consider the final reading of an animal control ordinance update when it meets tonight.

It will also consider an agreement related to a state grant for the Boston Centre.

The council will meet at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S.

The animal control ordinance will give the animal control officer more discretion in cases in which an animal must be quarantined after biting someone. The proposal will allow the officer to choose the least restrictive confinement measure that still protects public safety.

In July, the city received a $100,000 Community Catalyst Building Remediation Grant to be used to help pay for a new elevator in the Boston Centre, 809 Central Ave. That 111-year-old building has had elevator problems for several years.

The new elevator is estimated to cost $600,000. The building’s owners will pay $400,000 of that cost.

Tonight, the council will consider an agreement that will send the grant money to the Boston Centre Owners Association.

The council will also consider awarding a contract for building some retaining walls in Oakland Cemetery. The purchases of a tracked loader for snow removal and a pickup truck are also on the agenda.

Starting at $4.94/week.
