Newsome makes another run for City Council

Eugene Newsome is again trying to win a seat on the Fort Dodge City Council.

He filed nominating petitions on Monday to run for one of the two at-large seats on the council that will be filled in the Nov. 4 general election.

Newsome did not return a phone call Monday seeking comment on his candidacy.

Michael Haubrich and former Councilman Terry Moehnke are also running for at-large council seats.

Newsome has run for city office multiple times, most recently in 2023 when he ran for an at-large seat.

Newsome, of 322 Ave. F, is a Georgia native who was an Army paratrooper from 1961 to 1966. He earned an associate degree from Iowa Central Community College and is currently retired.

He previously served on the city’s Cable Television Commission.

Other city candidates so far include Councilman Dave Flattery, who is running for mayor, Councilwoman Jen Crimmins (Ward 1), Todd McCubbin (Ward 3), Jeanette Moss (Ward 3), and Councilman Kim Alstott (Ward 4).

Starting at $4.94/week.
