POCAHONTAS — One man was killed in a head-on collision on Iowa Highway 4 south of Pocahontas Thursday afternoon.

The Iowa State Patrol identified the man as Darwin Benjamin Rosales Castillo, 31, of Westminster, Colorado. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The crash happened at 12:02 p.m. Thursday on Iowa Highway 4 about 2,000 feet south of 600th Street, troopers reported.

According to the State Patrol, Castillo was heading north in a 2005 Subaru Impreza when his vehicle crossed the center line of the highway and hit a southbound 2024 Ford Explorer operated by Ronald Meyer, 65, of Pocahontas. Castillo’s vehicle came to rest in the middle of the highway while Meyer’s stopped on the shoulder of the road.

Meyer suffered a minor injury. He was checked at the scene by paramedics but was not taken to a hospital.

Troopers reported that Meyer was wearing his seatbelt, but Castillo was not.
