Memorial Day observance set for Monday
Ceremony will be in veterans park at Badger Lake
The Fort Dodge community’s traditional Memorial Day ceremony will be held Monday at Terry Moehnke Veterans Memorial Park once again.
But this year, people will board the buses going to and from the park at a different location.
The parking lot of the Community Orchard, 2237 160th St., will be the bus stop. Previously, the bus stop was at Harlan and Hazel Rogers Sports Complex.
The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. with a concert of patriotic music by the Karl L. King Municipal Band.
At 10:30 a.m., the program featuring a salute to veterans will begin.
Traditional elements of the ceremony include a keynote speaker, the naming of the Veteran of the Year, and dropping a wreath into the lake in memory of those buried at sea.
These activities will be in the park along Badger Lake off National Avenue.
The buses will begin running at 9 a.m. from the Community Orchard to the park.
The Memorial Day ceremony is planned by the Fort Dodge Veterans Council.
In the event of bad weather, the ceremony may be moved on short notice to Fort Frenzy, 3232 First Ave. S.
