Jones gets 22 years

A Fort Dodge man has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for the role he played in his father’s murder last year.

Nathan Jones, 22, pleaded guilty Monday to conspiracy to commit murder, a class C felony; abuse of a corpse, a class C felony; and accessory after the fact, an aggravated misdemeanor. He was also sentenced Monday in Webster County District Court to 10 years in prison for conspiracy to commit murder, 10 years for abuse of a corpse, and two years in prison for the charge of accessory after the fact.

“Although he didn’t pull the trigger that night, he made these decisions with his brother, Alec, that led to the death of his father, Dennis Jones,” said Webster County First Assistant County Attorney Brad McIntyre.

According to court documents, Jones stated that he knowingly conspired with his brother, Alec Jones, 26, to kill their father, Dennis Jones, 55, on April 25, 2024. Dennis Jones was shot numerous times at the family’s residence, 1440 Second Ave. S. The pair then hid the corpse in a ditch along 280th Street in rural Webster County with the intent to conceal the crime. Dennis Jones’ body was found shortly after by a mail carrier on his route.

During sentencing Monday, Jones stated that he gave his brother access to his firearm and aided in the planning and commission of the murder.

Fines for Nathan Jones were suspended by District Court Judge Ashley Sparks.

Alec Jones was convicted of first-degree murder by a Webster County jury in August 2024. He was sentenced to life in prison in October 2024.
