MOORLAND — A heavy law enforcement presence was visible in Moorland midday Thursday following a domestic incident with a firearm.

According to Webster County Sheriff Luke Fleener, Kaleb K. Meyer contacted the Webster County Sheriff’s Office to report that he was involved in a domestic incident with Cheyanne E. Guthrie at 618 Front St. Meyer stated that during the incident a firearm was displayed and discharged and he was struck by a bullet, the sheriff said.

Meyer left the scene and drove to a relative’s home where he was later taken to a hospital in Mason City to be treated for injuries.

Webster County deputies and detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division responded to the residence in Moorland. Fleener said that Guthrie is currently cooperating with detectives to determine what happened during the domestic altercation.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives are still gathering evidence to determine if criminal charges should be filed.

According to Fleener, there is no threat to the community and this is an isolated incident.
