Larson launches primary challenge

An Odebolt resident is challenging state Rep. Mike Sexton in the June 4 Republican primary election.

Wendy Larson announced her campaign Monday, touting her “strong Christian conservative values.”

She is seeking to unseat Sexton, of Rockwell City, in House District 7, which includes Calhoun, Pocahontas and Sac counties plus western Webster County. Sexton is seeking his sixth term.

No Democrats have entered the race so far.

“It’s time for residents of District 7 to have a representative who is present with them, listens to their concerns, makes time for them and focuses on relevant issues to the district,” Larson said in a written statement.

Larson said she believes in strong families and fighting for the unborn.

“To me, it’s about our children,” she said. “That means being pro-life, having and encouraging strong families, knowing every decision we make will impact our kids and the future they will have.”

Larson said if she is elected, she will be tackling “improper use of eminent domain, anti-Second Amendment laws, mandates that transgress our medical freedoms, illegal immigration and indoctrination of children in public schools.”

“We need someone in Des Moines who will lead on issues, whether popular or unpopular, and stand up to this nonsense,” she said.

Larson and her husband, Chad, have three children who are homeschooled. She is a deaconess at Kiron Baptist Church and a volunteer at the Mobile Food Pantry.

The candidate earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado.
