A Fort Dodge man was arrested in Altoona Tuesday evening when he reportedly went there with the intention of meeting an underage girl for sex, according to Altoona police.

Police and court records identify him as Mitchell K. Russell.

He was arrested at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at a hotel, according to police. He had been under investigation for about a month after he started communicating online with someone he thought was a girl. However, he was actually communicating with a detective.

According to online court records, he has been charged with sexual exploitation of a minor — cause to engage in act, enticing a minor under 16 — sexual purpose, four counts of telephone dissemination of obscene material to a minor — first offense and sex offender providing false information — first offense.

A preliminary hearing in his case has been scheduled for April 5.
