One shot to death in Fort Dodge incident

A person was apparently shot to death Tuesday night in Fort Dodge.

City police and firefighters were dispatched to the 400 block of South 15th Street at about 9:50 p.m. for a report of a person shot. The victim was found in the street on the southwest side of the intersection of 15th Street and Fourth Avenue South. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting remained under investigation late Tuesday night.

South 15th Street was closed to traffic between Third and Fifth avenues south. The intersection where the victim was found and a stretch of Fourth Avenue South was cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape.

A crowd of agitated people gathered and some ducked under the crime scene tape before being quickly escorted back to the other side of the tape by law enforcement officers. State troopers and Webster County sheriff’s deputies were called to help calm the tense scene.

The Fort Dodge police and fire departments, Webster County sheriff’s deputies, the Iowa State Patrol and the Webster County Medical Examiners Office responded to the scene.
