FD Middle School to have new principal
If approved, Chesteen will begin work on July 25

A longtime administrator from the Sioux City Community School District will be the new leader at Fort Dodge Middle School this school year, pending approval from the Fort Dodge Community School District Board of Education.
According to a release from FDCSD Superintendent Josh Porter, Sioux City North Middle School Principal Shawn Chesteen has been tapped to fill the lead principal role at FDMS being vacated by Aaron Davidson, who has moved into the FDCSD’s executive director of educational services role.
“We are very fortunate to have Mr. Chesteen on board,” Porter said. “He brings a lot of positive energy to the table. He has the ability to get along with everyone, but still manage a building to the best of his ability. He is looking forward to getting started and learning all about our kids, families and community — and why being a Dodger is a special experience for leaders, educators and children.”
Chesteen has been the middle school principal at Sioux City North for the past nine years and prior to that he served as assistant high school principal in the same district for five years.
“It will be an honor and privilege to be a part of the FDCSD,” Chesteen said. “I look forward to working with all of you. I’m committed to doing the best I can to help the district achieve the goals that are set out to meet. Thank you again (for the opportunity) … I can’t wait to be a part of a great district.”
Chesteen’s hiring will be on the agenda for the next FDCSD School Board meeting on July 24. If approved, Chesteen’s first day on the job will be July 25, approximately a month before the start of the next school year.
“We are excited for Mr. Chesteen to join our team,” Porter said. “His experience and skill set will be instrumental as we move forward in cultivating a continued strong climate and culture at the Fort Dodge Middle School. We feel his personality and enthusiasm will serve our district well.”
