The man accused of fatally shooting a teenage boy Tuesday night in Fort Dodge was arrested Thursday afternoon, police reported.

Jamarrion J. Davis, 18, of Ankeny, was arrested in the 400 block of North 27th Street. He is being charged with first degree murder, according to the Fort Dodge Police Department.

He is accused of shooting Jameel C. Redding-Pettigrew, 15, of Fort Dodge, at the intersection of 15th Street and Fourth Avenue South.

The Special Emergency Response Team, a unit of Fort Dodge police officers and Webster County sheriff’s deputies, went to the apartment building at 447 N. 27th St. Thursday to apprehend Davis. As the team members approached, Davis tried to run away. He was tackled after a short foot chase and was taken into custody.

The shooting death of Redding-Pettigrew was reported at 9:44 p.m. Tuesday. He was found in the southwest side of the intersection of 15th Street and Fourth Avenue South. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Special Emergency Response Team is a unit that handles high risk situations, such as taking accused killers into custody. It was assisted Thursday by other Fort Dodge police officers and Webster County deputies. The Fort Dodge Fire Department had an ambulance on standby a short distance away, and later had a fire truck on the scene.

After Davis was arrested and taken from the area, detectives removed evidence from the apartment building in paper bags.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Webster County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Webster County Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.
